I was flipping through some old sketches from high school and I found an image with a girl and a gumball machine. I recreated the image. This one looks a lot better. When I look at my early work it makes me laugh. I'm sure I will look at this one in another ten years and do the same thing.

I have been playing Zelda Spirit Tracks on the Nintendo DS. So, I decided to draw the cute but deadly Link. I have really enjoyed this game. Its not as challenging yet as I was hoping that it would be. Still, very fun. If you don't have it yet you should pick it up.

Hurley Lost

The final season of LOST started last night. This is one show that I look forward to. The story line keeps me on my toes. I never know quite what to expect. I loved the episode last night.
Hurley is one of my favorite characters. I was experimenting with a a different style with this sketch.

I did this from start to finish in about an hour. The inspiration was from the SFG challenge this week (6) so I decided to sketch a six shooter.
We are moving next week. This will be our forth time in a year. I hate moving. At least this time we are moving into a house where I will have my own studio space. So, I'm exited about that.

Back to Idaho

So, things didn't work out as planned in Memphis. We decided to move back to Idaho to be closer to family. It is great to be back close to loved ones. Are family's are ecstatic that we are here, and that they can see our kids more than once a year.

This is a image I created for an internship with Blue Water Productions. I had a chance to work on some fun projects with Blue Water they have a lot going on you can expect to see some really cool things from this company.

I thought I would show my process from pencils, inks, and color.

Other news, I graduated with my masters degree from SCAD. That was a fun ride! I now have a job. Its something that I really didn't see my self doing but it fits me quite well. I will be teaching art at a middle school in Memphis TN. I love kids and teaching. I will continue to draw comics and do free lance illustration on the side.

We went for a walk the other day at a pond near our house. There were snails, frogs, and snakes. My 4 and 6 year old had fun trying to catch these little creatures. I had a blast too. We didn't keep any. Just catch and release.

MegaCon

I know its a little late to be posting about MegaCon. I have my excuses, none of which are very good considering it only takes about 5 minutes to post something on a blog. So I'm sorry this is late. MegaCon was really great I had the chance to meet a lot of awesome people, and hang out with some awesome people that I have already met in the past. I want to say thanks to the many of you that bought my books and drawings. I hope you will enjoy them.

This year I would have to say was a better experience than last year, mostly because I paid extra to stay in a nicer place. I didn't have to deal with spiders, smoking heaters, fire alarms, or people trying to come in my room in the middle of the night.

This Venom sketch was done at the convention and nobody bought it. Venom is one of my favorite characters to draw, because you get to be very loose and messy.

Sledding is a blast! I haven't been for a long time. We are going home for Christmas this year. Thats right back to Idaho. Sledding is on my list of things to do. I just hope they have snow, or that will put a real damper on my sledding.

Bunnies are so cute. But they poop a lot.
Most of this is drawn in Adobe Illustrator. For some of the finishing touches I took it into Photoshop. This style of Illustration is different for me. I'm so used to drawing on paper then scanning ,and coloring. It was fun to create this only using the computer.

This was a lot of fun to color. The mural in the background was a challenge. I liked el Toro Rojo so much that now I'm using him in a short story for a anthology. When I was in Mexico I saw a live Luchador match. It was hardcore! A ring was set up in the middle of a street and it was free to watch. These luchadors were jumping off houses and slamming heads into garage doors. They were really getting hurt, one guy split open his head diving off the top rope on to the concrete. He then started wiping blood on people in the crowd. It was awesome, and shocking. I think this experience is why I like luchadors. Well keep on luching.

El Toro Rojo

This is a cover that I am working on for a digital design issues class. The assignment is to find a old comic book character and revamp him. Then to make a comic cover using that character. I chose an old marvel character El Toro Rojo. I'm sure you remember him! He was a wrestler that fought Thor and got his trash kicked and was banished into a Inca totem. I love drawing luchadors. I'll post the colors soon.

Childrens Book

These are the first 7 pages of the children's book that I've been working on. This will not be published. Its for a children's book illustration class. I was a little skeptical about this class before it started but its been a blast. I've been able to add in two things that I love football and monsters. The dialogue is not on the pages but hopefully the visual story telling is strong enough that you can fallow the story. I will post more pages later.

I'm working on a children's book right now. These are some of the character designs. The story is about three monster boys who love to play football. A new kid moves in next door and they are so exited. They really want another kid on there team, but the new kid is a girl. We all know girls can't play football! Or can they? The book is all penciled but I have to ink and color it. I'll post some pages later.

Bit of Color and CBS

I thought I should add some color to this. I gave my self an hour to do it. I came pretty close to that. Hope ya like it.
I have been very busy lately with school and family. Maybe some of you saw my brief appearance on the CBS early show? Me and some other SCAD students were asked to do some illustrations for CBS's visit to Savannah last Thursday. Our segment had some technical difficulties, so I was only on for about 10 seconds. Sad! It was a good learning experience. The Illustration I made was of Harry Smith skiing in Aspen.

So, I was reading the Robert Kirkman's graphic novel The Walking Dead. I had this assignment for school come up where I had to put at least 10 figures in a specific location. I put Batman in Gotham city surrounded by zombies, but I didn't like how it turned out. I did like the batman though, so that's all I inked. I photoshoped out the rest. -sorry no zombies vs Batman.

I have so much more fun designing villains. You will see more of this character later. I named him dirt claude. Again this is brush pen, marker, and a little toothbrush splatter.

MegaCon

MegaCon was great! I had a ton of fun. Thanks to everyone that stopped by the table. The Issue #0 of BucketBoy sold really well. If you want a copy you can pick one up at www.indyplanet.com I sold some sketches. These two didn't sell, but they were fun to draw. The best part about the convention was meeting all the people. Some great artists and fans were there. The worst part was the motel we stayed in. It was cold in our room so I turned the heater on and 5 minutes later the smoke alarm went off. So I called the office and told her the problem. The first thing she asked was if I had turned the heater on. If they know that the heater smokes you would think that they would fix it. So we turned the heater off, opened the window and took the battery out of the smoke alarm. The next morning after my cold shower, I was drying off and a huge spider crawled down the wall. I hate spiders so I screemed like a girl then smashed it with a roll of TP. I got dressed and went out to get my buddy Josh to show him the size of this spider I had just slaughtered. We went back in to the bathroom and it was gone. Ahhh! I was hoping that it wouldn't seek revenge when I went to sleep that night. I guess it was a bad idea to stay in a one star hotel.

Brush Pen Sketch

I ordered a new brush pen and I started sketching with it. Then it took on a mind of its own. I added white ink, gray marker, a little splatter, and voula! Sometimes I just have more fun than an armadillo crossing the street. Speaking of fun, I will be in Orlando this weekend at MegaCon. So if you're there, I will be in artist alley. Hero's Con

I went to Hero's Con in North Carolina over the weekend. It was great! I was at the Fat Man Little Boy Comics booth with the other guys from the studio. We had a good time. We sold a lot of books and did a lot of sketches. I plan on going again next year. The next Con that I will be at will be Mega Con in Orlando- I hope to see you there.

Science Anthology Out

SCAD does a sequential art anthology each year. This years anthology was science and technology. It came off the press last week, and it looks really nice. There's a great story of mine in there entitled "Sir Isaac Newton, The Godfather of Gravity" I think it will be distributed through Top Shelf productions. I will have some at Hero's con. at the end off the month. Pick a copy up. I will put a link up later to where you can go to buy a copy online.

Finally I have something to show for the many years that I have given my life to higher education. Last week I recieved my bachelors degree in seqential art from the Savannah College of Art and Design. (SCAD) SCAD is an awsome school. ?If you're looking for a place to study art, especialy sequential art, I highly recommend it. Last week was also Editors day. I had a portfolio review with James Lucas Jones, Editor from Oni press and also with Chris Starros from Top Shelf. Both reviews went really well. There great guys. They gave me some positive feed back as well as what I can do to improve my work. I have loved the time I've spent at SCAD. So I've decided to stay. I just applied for grad school here. I should find out any day if I am accepted.
